When it comes to snacking...are you feeding your family healthy snacks or tossing them a bag of potato chips? While there is nothing wrong with a few potato chips in moderation, they certainly shouldn't be something that is snacked on every day of the week. Here are some Healthy Snack Ideas that the entire family can enjoy.
Fresh Fruit: Apples, oranges, bananas, pears and peaches make great snacks any time of the day. You can dip your fresh fruit slices in some high-protein peanut butter, plain or vanilla yogurt to add even more nutritional value to your snack.
Granola: Snacking on granola is a very healthy alternative to potato chips and cookies. Look for organic or natural granola that is packaged in individual serving bags or purchase granola bars for snacking on-the-go.
Low-Fat Yogurt: Snacking on plan yogurt or yogurt with your favorite fruit is a great way to get some healthy low-calorie nutrition. If you find yogurt to be boring, purchase plain yogurt and add your own freshly sliced fruits to it and if you ask me...the more added fruits, the better!
Homemade Fruit & Veggie Juices: When you need to take a healthy snack with you on the go, consider making your own homemade fruit and vegetable juices. When you make them homemade, you can control what goes in them and juice making at home is a really easy process if you invest in a juicing machine.
Homemade Fruit Smoothies: Fruit smoothies can be made with whole milk, skim milk, soy milk or your favorite low-fat yogurt. When making your own fruit smoothies, only use fresh or frozen fruit slices for the best nutritional value.
Fresh Veggie Sticks: Chop up some fresh broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, celery and cucumbers. You can dip them in peanut butter, plain yogurt or just eat them plain. Veggies are a great way to keep your body healthy and if you prepare them up ahead of time, you and the family will eat them!
Whole Grain Crackers: Plain or with organic cheese slices which help to give you more calcium. If you need to add more protein to your diet, top your whole grain crackers with some organic or natural peanut butter & sesame seeds.
